Aromatherapy is a form of holistic complimentary therapy which can be performed through massage. Essential oils are used in aromatherapy massage and have emotional and physical benefits on the body. It has been shown to be effective not only in the treatment of stress-related conditions, but also with muscular, circulatory, respiratory, digestive and skin problems.
The olfactory system (sense of smell) can help to provoke positive memories, thoughts and motivate decision making. The effect of aromatherapy can be experienced through massage, friction, inhalation, compress and baths.
During an aromatherapy treatment with me, there will be a consultation process where we will discuss any health problems which may be a contraindication to the massage and choose essential oils together accordingly. As it is a holistic form of treatment, I will look at the body as a whole. I will take into account not only the symptoms of my client but their lifestyle and any other conditions that may be related to the initial problem.
There are also options of having a normal body massage which is the same treatment but using massage wax or a carrier oil rather than essential oils. This is also beneficial as it can relax muscle tissue, improve range of motion and flexibility.
